Configuration of BuddyPress settings can be achieved from the “options” tab.

Main Settings: Within this segment, you can enable two features, which include enabling the toolbar rendering, for logged out users and allowing registered users to delete their own accounts.

Still within the segment, you can select your desired template pack (BuddyPress Nouveau or BuddyPress Legacy). A template pack is basically a set of template files.

BuddyPress Legacy was the first template pack shipped with BuddyPress.

BuddyPress Nouveau on the other hand improves on the legacy template pack and has more technical improvements such as modern Javascript and minimal styling for better themes compatibility. It’s the default template pack in BuddyPress installs.

Members Settings: Allows members to upload their profile pictures and cover images.

Profile Settings: Allows BuddyPress to WordPress profile syncing.

Group Settings: Helps users create groups as well as customization of group avatars and cover images.

Activity Settings: Helps in enabling activity stream commenting within posts and comments, as well as automatically check for new items while viewing the activity stream.

Within this course, we will enable all these options and also use the BuddyPress Nouveau template pack.
